OCTOBER 2016: MONTHLY PROGRESS REPORT

OCTOBER 2016: MONTHLY PROGRESS REPORT

October is officially over and there are only 2 months left in 2016! And what a year it’s been!
October is actually the only full month that I’ve spent in Australia this year.. that’s crazy! It’s been nice to be home, but it’s been unseasonably cold and I’m definitely not as productive here. I’ve gotten used to having my own space and being void of distractions. That’s one reason why I’ve booked a flight back to Chiang Mai for 1 month before the end of 2016… but I’ll tell you more about that soon in another post!

I also had a birthday in October! I’m now 23 which feels old and all grown up, but looking around it’s quite interesting to see that most people working online and travelling while they work are a lot older than me. I guess I’m blessed that I came across this kind of work while I was young.

As the year is coming to a close, I’m working harder than ever. I feel like I have more clarity than ever with what I’m working on, and what needs to be done. If all goes to plan, 2017 will be an incredible year!

But, I’ll save my plans for a different post and probably a few YouTube videos. For now, let’s see what I got up to in October!

GOALS

Fitness Goals
• Squat 200kgs
• Deadlift 220kgs
• Bench Press 100kgs
• Dunk with 2 hands

I’ve gotten to the gym 5-6 days per week throughout October. I’ve also been eating Paleo and very clean. I didn’t have much to lose but I’ve managed to drop about 3kg since returning home, so I’m feeling pretty good right now at about 85kg.
I’ve had a niggling shoulder injury so I’ve been in and out of the chiropractor a bit, but it’s on the mend.

I haven’t been back-squatting much, and have been still focusing on my deadlift. Just yesterday I was repping 170kg quite comfortably. I’m sure I’m still a decent way off of my goals there but I feel that I could max at least 200kg, if not a little bit more.

If I had to estimate, I’d guess that I could probably squat 180kg or so, but I really don’t know right now.

And for bench press, probably 95kg or so. I’ve been working hard on getting my bench numbers up, but it’s a slow grind!

And as far as dunking with 2 hands goes.. I have no clue but I doubt I’m there! I haven’t been playing basketball since I’ve been back other than in the driveway. I feel like I could probably squeeze in the occasional 1 hander at the moment, but am still a little way off of the 2 hand throwdowns!

Slow, but steady progress made on the fitness front. Looking forward to ending the year strong in this area!

Business/Financial Goals
Launch Freedom Self Publishing
• Reach 1000 YouTube Subscribers
• Reach 100+ YouTube Videos
• Reach 100+ Blog Posts
• Make $50,000 From My Kindle Books
• Run a Kindle Mastermind/Seminar
• Grow Income to $10,000 Per Month
• Publish 20 Books Under a New Account

I haven’t really checked these numbers until today, so I’m not quite sure what to expect… but here goes!

I had 20 people sign up for Freedom Self Publishing this month, which was slightly down from last months 25, but most of these new members weren’t from affiliates. Despite having a lower number of people sign up, I actually kept more of the membership fees due to the lower number of affiliate commissions I had to pay.
In total, Freedom Self Publishing netted me a nice $1880 (at today’s exchange rate) which is around what I made from it last month, despite having less people sign up.

I have around 100 members in the course right now, which is awesome! Not every single one of the has Facebook or has joined the private FB group, but it now has 86 members and we’re starting to get a nice community going which is awesome! To check out what the course is all about, head to: www.freedomselfpublishing.com

I’ve been a little bit lazy with YouTube this month. Being back home in Melbourne, I’ve felt quite uninspired as far as producing videos goes.
I only added 4 more videos to my channel, bringing the total to 86. I should get very close to hitting my target of 100 videos by the year’s end!

Putting up limited content also meant it was a slower month as far as new subscribers go.
Right now, I’m up to 804 subscribers which is an increase of 114 for October.

I’m planning to put out a lot more content over the last couple of months of the year though, and shouldn’t have any issues hitting the 1000 subscribers target!

If you haven’t already, take a look at my YouTube Channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC-CsitUAKiJQkTHsqjeW8IA

I was also a bit lazy on the blogging front, adding only 3 blog posts for the month. That takes my total up to 55.

My original Kindle account took a bit of a hit this month, only bringing me in about $1900. I did have 75% of my books finish the month on a free promotion though, so that explains a slight drop in sales, but nonetheless it performed worse than I had hoped.

It is however, about as passive as it gets. I have some shocking book niches in that account, and I seriously don’t touch it. Honestly, I put in a maximum of 1 hour a month on it… some months I don’t even log in other than to check my sales.

It should still make me $1500+ per month throughout 2017 I believe, which also happens to be the exact amount I used to make at my part-time job – although this time it’s totally passive.

It’s also enough for me to live like a Boss in Chiang Mai, have a nice apartment with a pool, eat out 3-4 times a day, have a gym membership, use a co-working space, rent a motorbike, and go out a couple of times per week. So, at least it covers my living expenses passively. I can’t complain too much about that!
For more information about just how cheap it is to live the good life in Chiang Mai, check out the video below:

For my new Kindle account, I am now up to 11 books published, though 2 of them need to go through a free promotion. For the month, this account made about $2250. Not too shabby from 11 books, but it should be higher.
I published a couple of books in great niches when I first launched the account, but they weren’t as great quality as they could have been.
I’m always preaching about quality, but I really dropped the ball here.

I’ll talk about it more in a future post, but I have big, big plans for this account. I have another 18 book niches that I aim to publish in by the end of the year. Most of these books I have already gotten written and am currently editing and improving.
That will take the total new books to 29.
That’s where I was planning to leave it, but just a couple of days ago I stumbled across another 10 niches that look to have HUGE potential!

That brings the total new books to 39…

I can’t really guarantee results, but if they all make the average of $200 that the first 11 are doing so far, that’s $7800 per month! Add that to my $1900 from my original account, and I’ll be making 6-figures from Kindle!

Like I said, I can’t guarantee results at all, but for the rest of the year and probably the first couple of months of 2017, I will be tripling down on Kindle, and publishing like a maniac! So stay tuned!

I didn’t run a seminar this month, but I did run a joint webinar about Kindle Publishing! If you’d like to watch a replay of the webinar, you can do so here: http://www.angelajford.com/webinar-amazon-optimization-tactics-help-sell-books/

All in all, I ended up making around $4150 from Kindle which isn’t too bad, but is slightly down on last month. And Freedom Self Publishing brought me in an additional $1880.
That brings the total for October to approximately $6030.

These numbers are rough, and the exchange rate changes so lets be conservative and say:

$6000

Pretty similar to last month. I’m definitely not at my $10,000 a month goal just yet, but I’m very confident I’ll hit in soon enough!

This month however, was an expensive one!

I book return flights to Chiang Mai from Melbourne, and also paid for a heap of books to be written. I see both of these things as investments though, and will really set me up for a super profitable (and mostly passive) year in 2017!

Now, onto Lifestyle/Personal Goals:
Spend 5+ Months Overseas
Go to Bali
Go to Koh Phangan, Thailand
Go to Bangkok, Thailand
Go to Chiang Mai, Thailand
• Buy a Gold Watch
• Become Conversational in Russian

The only things remaining on this list, as you can see, are the last 2.

The gold watch will be bought once I hit $8000. I set out a gold watch challenge that you can read about here: http://www.drivenliving.com/uncategorized/gold-watch-challenge/

As far as Russian goes, I’ve been doing well – but it’s super tough!

I have two units left of my Russian course (10 lessons) and should be finished that within a couple of weeks.
At that stage I’ll put out a video showing my skills (or lack thereof) when it comes to conversing in Russian.
I mostly struggle with their grammar, which has some ridiculous rules! I will spend a couple of weeks once I’ve finished my Russian course, just going over the different rules and really trying to master them. Then, I’ll sign up for the advanced course they offer.

I feel like I could get by in Russia okay right now, but I’m not at my goal – that’s for sure.

Every month I seem to be making big improvements though, and by the time I visit Russia (hopefully in May next year) I should be speaking quite well!

It’s been a fun goal to mix things up this year! It takes quite a bit of my time and energy, but I really do enjoy it, and would recommend that everyone tries to learn (at least a little) of another language!

All in all, October has been, well, okay.

I don’t particularly like turning another year older, and Melbourne has been cold. I’ve been pretty anti-social and have just been watching my health (more about that in a future post) and working a lot.

I fly to Chiang Mai on the 15th of November, and honestly, can’t wait. It’s become my 2nd home, and I really feel 100 x more productive there.

I think that not everyone here understands why I want to travel so much, or be away from home for so long, especially alone. But, then again most people don’t have a lifestyle anything like mine. Most don’t work from home, and most can’t make their money passively. Most don’t have goals like I do. And most have never stepped out of their comfort zones. Most have hardly every travelled, and unfortunately, most never will.
But, if there’s one thing I’ve learned this year, it’s that sometimes I just need to focus on what makes me happy, and not give a flying f*ck about what anyone else thinks.

Anyway, that’s my thoughts about the month/life, and my progress thus far.

Bring on November!

Until next time,

Adrian Ingram

  1. Thank you for putting this together and being so transparent. I just started my own Kindle journey a couple weeks ago with two books on the way. Its heartening to see someone making it work! Consider your site bookmarked.

  2. Great stuff mate.
Didn’t take you long to change your mind about being in Melbourne for the whole summer. haha. The temptation of Chiang Mai and getting shit done there is just too great it seems.
I’ve got my 2nd and 3rd books in the works at the moment, however these are ones people will have to buy physical copies of, as they are designed to be written in. There’s a little bit of competition in these niches, but it’s mostly untapped at the price point I’m going for.

    • Haha it’s too tempting mate, and Melbourne’s been way too cold so far!
Nice work! Look forward to hearing how they go for you!!
